Oleg Kumagin — Russian Contemporary Artist

Oleg Kumagin is a prominent Russian contemporary artist, a member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia (TCXR), the SABROS creative union, and an honorary member of the International Academy of Contemporary Arts (IACS).
Born in 1964 in Nizhny Novgorod, he currently lives and works in his hometown, developing his key spatial art projects.
Signature ArtStones Technique and International Recognition
Fascinated by natural minerals and rare gemstones of Russia since his youth, Kumagin managed to merge the raw beauty of natural textures with classical painting. Through years of experimentation, he created his unique signature technique ArtStones — a seamless synergy of natural stone, rich relief texture, and a painted layer on canvas.
In 2018, this innovative technique received high international acclaim at the prestigious Design Show of Gemstones and Jewelry in New Jersey, USA.
Digital Art, AI, and Reimagining Traditions
In his artistic practice, Oleg Kumagin explores the delicate interplay of material, light, and human perception. The artist actively integrates modern digital technologies, pioneering the field of AI art (Artificial Intelligence art) and developing experimental visual practices at the intersection of classical fine arts and cutting-edge contemporary art.
A separate direction of his work is dedicated to the conceptual reimagining of folk crafts, creating modern interpretations of traditional Russian ornaments and decorative culture (the "neo-khokhloma" style).

A vital part of Kumagin's career is dedicated to social and inclusive art. He creates unique tactile artworks and interactive installations designed specifically for blind and visually impaired audiences. For his significant contribution to the development of tactile art and the adaptation of cultural environments, the artist has been honored with diplomas and letters of appreciation from major cultural organizations.
"Kontur" Lab — Experimental Perception Lab
Oleg Kumagin is also the founder and driving force behind an independent multidisciplinary art project — The "Kontur" Lab (Experimental Perception Lab).
The laboratory is heavily focused on cross-disciplinary research within the field of spatial art environments. Through immersive installations, the project explores the physical laws of space, optical reflections, the behavior of light, and the deep psychology of human perception.
